I had a pretty eventful indoor track season! On my Common Application, I had listed several All-Class designations for outdoor track but hadn’t earned any for indoor track yet. I had also never qualified for the state championship.
That all changed this week! I’m all-class in several indoor events as well as a state qualifier (which is top 15). Is that worth contacting Harvard, Brown, Amherst, and Tufts over?
I would. Congratulations!
Most recruiting is done in the early decision/early action process. Have you already been in contact with/recruited by the coaches at those schools? If so, tell the coaches. You’ve done everything you can do.
If not, check your times against the 2015 Ivy and NESCAC championships to see if your times were competitive to score points at those meets. Being top 15 in an even in, say, Rhode Island is very very different than being top 15 in California. Your times may be good enough, or they may not be.
You can find the meet results at tfrrs dot com
If your times would score points in those meets, then immediately contact the coaches at those schools - not the admissions office. Tell the coach that you already applied to the college, you plan on coming if accepted, and you plan on running track. The coach may (or may not) be able to put a good word in for you. It might be too late, but there is no harm in trying.
I had already taken a look at TFRRS and my times would not score in either meet. While I had received some recruitment letters from other schools, they weren’t offering scholarship money and I wasn’t interested in them. I would have the opportunity to walk-on to the aforementioned teams, but I doubt coaches would call up admissions for me.
I was merely wondering if informing admissions through the standard channel (the update) would be worthwhile to show continued interest in their school as well as show my new achievements.
Thank you @ThankYouforHelp @latinvibes
There is no reason to update if you were not a recruit.
Agree, unless you are an athletic recruit, I would not update.
But congrats on a great track season!
