I'm a little stressed, so help me out.

Why are you choosing to repeat? Just wondering.

I just feel that at such competitive schools as Exeter and Andover it would be easier to get in as a freshmen (the grade if accepted will definitely be easier). Also, I believe that it will be nice to have a four year boarding school experience.

That makes sense, BUT, you will be judged as if you were a freshman applying. The pros probably still outweigh the cons though. Anyways, I think you have as good a chance as any really, I'm just another person applying who knows just as much as you.

Highfive for the chess thing, Did you mean 1st for your age group? 1st overall sounds kinda hard to believe. I'm second in my age group =p

Yes, I meant first in my grade. What about you? What is your rating?

Well actually istoleyournose they actually do know if your applying as a repeat. It's different than a little middle schooler applying, they know most likely you will be able to handle the work having done that grade before. Secondly they have a better understanding of if your going to be able to handle things socially living by yourself if your a little more matured than the 8th graders applying.

There is a difference, not necessarily going to help EVERYONE..but it definitely has some weight the the admissions process in my opinion.

I didn't say they didn't know? I said he would be judged as a freshman applying which is not the same as being judged as an eighth grader? Not sure where you coming from, sorry lol.

is it better to apply as a repeat or sophomore?? what are the diff. pros and cons??

I mis understood you from what your now saying isto, arox try and read my previous post. From what I've read on here those are the pros, there are no cons when it comes to being accepted. Now you personally may have some cons with repeating though.

Would repeating a HS grade make your resume look bad when it comes to applying for college? like you cannot take a challenge.

No it would not, as long as you do well the following years after you repeated it shouldn't matter at all.

There's also alot of very valid reasons why someone might have to repeat a grade, the school they are attending may be more advanced and instead of teaching just one math or one science in a typical 9th grade year, they teach triple math and triple science (chem, phy, bio) in one year (the case for me at my new school). Another reason may be that the material is much different in the curriculum, this may be the case if someone is studying abroad, and instead of learning American history they learn about Southern Asian culture or world history. There are many schools in certain countries have policies that require foreign students to repeat. One example includes many of the international schools in Singapore, which strictly doesn't allow out of country students (even if they can speak perfect english and mandarin) to not repeat as the script they use is very different.

As long as the student didn't have a GPA under 2.0 or something and has a reason to clarify them having repeating a grade some time during their schooling, it doesn't really make a difference.
