Okay, so I know a 730 is not bad. I'm pretty happy with it. I'm glad I made a 700+, but I was wondering if this was competative enough for MIT or Cal Tech or Cornell.. etc,? I am not going to major in biology but in computer science, but I thought that i might as well ask. Would math IIC score be more important then?
Should I retake in the fall? I think and believe that I can bring up my score to a 750+ maybe and 800.
edit
Ahh. I just realized that I'm in the 83rd percentile according to 2005 rankings. sigh I think a retake is a must be.

I believe many colleges look only at your best scores, so just do well on all your other SAT II's and they'll ignore the bio score probally. Some say only send 2 scores anyway. The admissions officers aren't 'that' fascist.

^Rofl. Well, I'm planning to take Math IIC.. I'm not sure what I'll score on that.=/ Haven't had math in a year. (My school sucks because It's trying to keep mje behind.. so I had to not take math this year. lol)
Do you think I should retake Bio though? ( I'm glad I got the score I got because my sci class was soo outdated. I had to relearn everything. NO joke) lol

Now I'm scared that I saw the percentile rankings. sigh Is a retake worth it?

no its not. man im ****ed about my score too..

Well, admission officers do not look at the percentiles, only your scores. I would keep that score if you're a junior to avoid more testing senior year, otherwise, feel free to retake it if you think it's that bad. But trust me, that's a great score. I had these worries too, but about high 600s and low 700s, and my college counseler said even those were good scores.

^ I thought the curve might be easy, but I think it ended up being harsh.=/

beanies520: This is my soph year.. so I still have a junior year for all the test taking. haha

bump.... .=]

hey akvareli...I don't think 730 is that bad. I got a 740 on Bio E and though it says I'm in the 93% by that chart, it means nothing. The only reason I'm disappointed is because I thought I would have scored a little better as Bio was a class I took interest in.

Here's what I found out from online:

"Percentile scores on the SAT Subject Tests are extremely misleading because not every student takes the Subject Tests and those students who do, don't all take the tests in the same subjects. For example, the only people who bother to take the Physics test are those that are excellent at Physics. A score of 600 on the Physics test places you in only the 38th percentile, while a 600 on the Chemistry test puts you in the 47th percentile. This difference, however, does not mean you stand a better chance of admission with a 600 in Chemistry rather than Physics. The scaled scores are meant to represent similar levels of achievement and are a much better indicator of how well you did than the misrepresentative percentile scores."

Ok. sorry, I had to bring this back up, but still what do you guys think? It seems like after seeing people complain about their 770's, I feel as if i need to retake the test.

If you're not majoring in bio, I think your score is okay. Math IIC is definitely more important, especially for MIT and caltech.

I was considering retaking a 750 chem, but after being b itched at on Livejournal's college_help community for even asking ("you are being ridiculous", "yeah, go waste more of your parents' money", etc), I don't think I'm going to retake it.

im only complaing about my 770 cuz i thot i knew enuff for an 800. even then, im truly not complaining. just live up to ur own standrds, not to ppl on CC
