Is this even legal???

Ok, here we go... Im a northern kid who recently moved to a southern school and today things almost got out of hand. If you arent familiar with southern schools, they are generally more strict, lower quality, and teachers and administrators think they can walk all over students. My stupid school enforced a new dress code rule saying that all students must wear their shirts tucked in at all times. Of course, this rule is largely ignored but 2day the principal decided to hide out and enforce it. He stopped me, my best friend, and about 14 other guys and told us to tuck our shirts in. No problem. Then he says "Im sure you all have cell phones on you somewhere, so give them to me". At this point an administrator starts reaching into kids pockets, not an exaggeration, and taking their phones. My best friend says something like "You want to strip search me as well" and is promptly given a discipline referral. Then he gets to me and i calmly say "you cant search me." He stares at me and tells me he can do whatever he wants, that he can search my pockets, my backpack, my car.. whatever. I decide to give him my phone to avoid trouble and besides, my mom can would come get it in less than an hour. Then he tells me they are still going to search me and i still refuse. Im taking into a private room with 2 other administrators and 3 cops where they threaten to send me home and im like "ok, give me the phone, ill call my parents" but they refuse to let me call. Then they threaten to expel me and make sure i dont graduate(Im a senior). At this point I'm laughing b/c i realize that they really cant do anything. Then the principal, after looking at my file and realizing that im a national achievement scholar and one of the academically better kids in the school, gives me this speech about how he is going to let me off and how i should give him a pat on the back at graduation, and he tries to sound sincere as if he is doing me a favor!! Well to conclude, after being taken from room to room and receiving multiple threats for 45 min AND missing lunch it all ends with them giving me a warning for dress code violation. Oh yea, those b****** didnt search me...

for windows computers, the big fat key above "shift" creates paragraphs

Yeah, the shift on the right.

If you arent familiar with southern schools, they are generally more strict, lower quality, and teachers and administrators think they can walk all over students.

no commento.

hmm dont really know about that. If you really care, look it up and then slam 'em

Maybe you should have stayed in Ohio?

yea when i lived in Indiana a similar case happened at my school in which a girl was late to class and smarted off to an officer when he told her to get to class. The officer searched the girls purse and after the girls mother found out he was fired within a week, not transferred but fired.

you should've given them the sucker punch and called your homies

in all seriousness, my southern school sucks too. not for this, but today i got a talk from a teacher that I missed too many days (16 this semseter) and how she'll talk to the vice-principal blah blah. I don't really care because I'm valedictorian and I make the best grades in her class anyway, and who's going to the math competition to represent from her class?

Yeah. the vp and i are buddy buddy anyway, no big deal.
i'm not trying to say I get priveleges because I do better or anything, but I've missed the same # of days in all of my classes, and she is the only one that has to be a ***** about it. they're all excused anyway

Just shrug it off, it's probably not legal to search without just cause, but no need to get all angry about it . .. we have like what, 1 month left? and then you'll go to a decent school.

Yeah Im most likely going to Depauw(top tier LAC in Indiana) so im not to worried about it, its just the fact that he actually threatened to expel me that ****es me off..

Is VA all that Southern tempered? I mean, I’m sure these kinds of things might happen a little more often in the south, but it could happen to any one of us no matter where we live, right?

Ah, the worries of not having any reason to get in trouble...they seldom enforce anything here if one is a senior and in good standing-some can have as many as 40 absences before someone calls and complains about it.

Uhh, I don't think that southern schools have stricter, lower quality teachers. I think the teachers down here are just fine compared to the northern school teachers, thank you.

I dont live in VA, I live in TN but this just isnt my school. This is all the schools in my area and they arent used to kids actually standing up against it.

COSINE, that's because you're in Texas

i live in rural virginia. there's a huge difference.

I guess it could've happened anywhere, but she's the only person that makes a big deal out of anything (and not just with me). . . every other teacher is soo lax

Yeah so I guess I'll just make sure to go to 1st period everday and then just leave after if I really want to . . . terry you dont have to give in and give him a "pat on the back", they just want to feel important, it'll be forgotten by graduation time.

Actually, VA has a very good school systems apparently and Texas isnt bad either but i did say the word "Generally" and according to these rankings at <a href="http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/package.jsp?name=fte/smartstates/smartstates%5B/url%5D">http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/package.jsp?name=fte/smartstates/smartstates</a> 8 of the bottom states(ranked 40-50) are in the southern half of the U.S. 2 arent in the continental U.S. and none are in the northern half of the US (unless you want to say California but lets be serious)

Georgia

Tennessee

Hawaii

Alabama

Alaska

Louisiana

California

Nevada

New Mexico

Mississippi

Arizona

Heh. Mississippi sucks. Must be something in the water ;).

Sorry man that sucks........you should have been like: 'Rebel Pride Bit*ch Rebel Pride.....Come work at my factory" NORTHERN PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah man Virginia has the best schools up north, like Thomas Jefferson High School, etc. I think 100% of all students at TJ get accepted to at least 1 ivy league. Average sat score is around 1500-1600 on the old scale.

But I live super rural, 5 hours away from those schools, on the border of West Virginia.

You'll find most good schools are up north and not as many in the south . . there was always that gap since like the Civil War period (i think?) and it never really was completely equal . . thats why you find more prep schools in the north, etc. even though both sides have their share of crappy public schools

Since when has MS ever been good at anything? They are the poorest state in the country by far, and they have no real attractions because Biloxi was destroyed.

I'm surprised that Kentucky and West Virginia are so high on the list...

umm Graceland is in memphis,TN where i currently live (only for a few more months thank god)... yea kentucky surprised me too
