Is this fake/did anyone else get this email?

So I got this weird email today, I will copy and paste it here:

Immediate Action Required!

Dear (My First Name):

Did you know that earlier this year the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) tentatively offered you a Transfer Entitlement Cal Grant award to help pay your college expenses for the upcoming 2014-15 academic year? If you do not take immediate action, this award offer may be withdrawn!

Are you planning on attending a 4 year California college or university any term in the 2014-15 academic year at least half-time (6 or more units)?

If YES, you must:
Confirm you meet the 2014-15 Transfer Entitlement award criteria by following these simple steps on WebGrants for Students (WGS) at www.webgrants4students.csac.ca.gov:

Create an account or log into your existing account;
Go to the Cal Grant Main Menu and complete the “Transfer Entitlement Certification” within 30 days of this email notification;
Go back to the Cal Grant Main Menu and select “View My CA Aid Report (CAR)” to see the status of your award and make sure the first school listed is the school you plan to attend;
If the first school listed on the CAR is not the school you plan to attend, go to the Cal Grant Main Menu and select “Submit School Change or Leave of Absence” where you can update your school; and,
For more information about new Cal Grant awards go to “Understanding My Cal Grant” found on the main menu in your WGS account.
If NO, you must:
Still complete the 2014-15 Transfer Entitlement confirmation, following the steps listed above. By taking these steps, your 2014-15 Cal Grant will be withdrawn and you will be eligible to reapply for Cal Grant for the 2015-16 academic year. To reapply, remember it takes 2 forms; the FAFSA OR Dream Application and a GPA Verification form!
Make sure you continue to visit WGS periodically, where you can manage your account and find important award updates and contact information.

I should point out that this email is blue comic sans font. I think it would be weird for a legit email of this sort of matter to be written in blue comic sans font. Also "Immediate Action Required!" probably starts like 95% of fraudulent emails.

Also I got an email a couple of hours earlier saying that if I'm not signed up for the selective service I will not be to receive financial aid. This was from the same sender of the above email and also written in blue comic sans.

So did anyone else get this email?

I didn’t nor would I get that email from CSAC, but here’s my advice.

Whenever you get a suspicious email supposedly from someone who you have business with, don’t ever click on links within the email. Go to their legitimate website, and call or login to your account from a known legit site.

I wouldn’t ignore it because if it’s legit, you need to take action.

It should be legit. Follow the instructions. I received the first one (about Selective Services) but not the second one (probably because I’d already done the entitlement form)

I’ve gotten an emails similar to that before but they certainly weren’t in blue Comic Sans font. What’s the sender?

Additionally, the link that they put in the email doesn’t work. The real Web Grants for Students “site” link is <a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home;

It’s most likely a legit email and I don’t think it’s malicious in anyway because it’s not soliciting you to put any personal information into some external site.

I received an email also about Selective Services in blue Comic Sans font.

I got the email about the Selective Service registration in blue Comic Sans font, too.

It seems legit. I guess the California Student Aid Commission is just really bad at making their emails look like they aren’t a scam, lol

So, I went to the website that k4201505 listed and it said I needed to fill an entitlement form. I did that, so I guess the email wasn’t fake after all.

it’s legit

Too complicated not to be legit
