Is this for real?

This is taken from the Hopkins Insider:

The application deadline is a postmark / online submission of January 1st for either the Part I and Part II of the JHU Application or the Common Application and Common Application supplement. Supporting materials such as transcripts, test scores, recommendations, and essays can be sent separately after the January 1st deadline. However, we recommend all required documents be postmarked no longer than two weeks after the deadline.

Which essays can be sent in late? Does it apply to the optional JH essays on the common app supplement?

If you're using the common app, I would consider the "optional" essays to be labeled as supplemental materials. Therefore, you could probably send them in late. However, the longer you wait, the less likely it will be read.

This is just my opinion though. By the time laxfan gets back on to answer questions again, it'll be too late anyway.
