Hi everyone,
I was just notified today that my current unweighted GPA is 3.8 and my weighted is 3.92. As a junior, I'm wondering if this is acceptable for colleges like Hopkins or Tufts University. I'm well aware that the weighted GPA should be something like 4.1+, however I've taken every AP class and honors class available so far. My school only has about 5 APs, and even the valedictorian of my school hasn't broken a 4.0 weighted GPA. Will colleges realize these circumstances and understand that it's not my fault my weighted GPA is significantly below other students' GPAs?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, colleges look at you in context of your school! If you’ve done your best and taken the most rigorous classes possible, then you’re set. They’ll understand your situation.

I have advised my own kids to stay at or above a core UW GPA of 3.8 because that is the requirement for some state flagship academic scholarships. I could be wrong, but I think colleges are not as interested in the weighted GPA. They are interested in a vigorous curriculum and in whether your guidance counselor has checked the box that notes whether you have undertaken the most challenging coursework offered by your school.

Thank you both for your quick responses! Apollo6: That’s great because my grades are higher now than they’ve ever been. My unweighted GPA for each quarter of this year has been about a 3.95 so far, so by the time I apply for colleges I should have about a 3.9 unweighted GPA =)
