Is this high schedule doable and impressive to colleges?

Freshman Year:

Pre-Calc, Pre-AP English 9 (required as a freshman, normal is available), Biology (required as a freshman, Pre-AP is available), Pre-AP Chemistry, Pre-AP World History (required as a freshman, normal is available), Spanish 2, 2-D Design Art (required as a freshman), PE-1 (required as a freshman)

Sophomore Year:

AP Calc AB, Pre-AP World (required as a sophomore, normal’s available), AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Human Geography, Spanish 3, Drawing, Finance, Sociology of Relationships, Intro to Business

Junior Year:

AP Calc BC (semester), AP Statistics, AP Lang & Comp, AP Physics 1, APUSH, Spanish 4, Advanced Drawing, AP Macro (or AP Mirco, I don’t know which one), AP Psychology, Computer Applications

Senior Year:

Calc III (semester), Differential Equations (semester), English 121+122, AP US Government, AP World History, AP Spanish 5, Painting, Nutrition and Wellness, Education Explorations, Student Council, Astronomy or Zoology (don’t know which one), AP Micro or Macro (whatever I don’t do as a junior)

I am planning on self-studying AP Environmental Science and one of the AP Computer Sciences. Or should I take one of those classes instead of Astronomy or Zoology? Or are there better electives or classes that colleges will like? I also plan on being part of NHS all years and I play club and school soccer. Is this too much? I am up for a challenge.

What year are you in now? IMO it is too early to even plan for next year – see how you do this year first.

I recommend you speak with your HS guidance counselor who should know: 1) a bit about you and your abilities; 2) the degree of difficulty of the courses at your HS; 3) if this schedule would be allow him/her to designate it as “most rigorous” (which top colleges want to see) etc.

And if you are taking a boatload of APs there is no value in self-studying two more. It would be better to spend your time on other things (ex. ECs, doing well in the classes you are taking etc.). Again I’d talk to your guidance counselor and I would consider your own interests in determine if you should take APES and APCS instead of your electives.

I think if you can handle this schedule, secure good grades/GPA (A’s, few B’s) and fit them in a schedule (there may be schedule conflicts between some classes listed in the future), then I think it will definitely be competitive for most schools!

Keep in mind that if you self study, you can take that associated AP exam without taking the class. That way, you can still reap the benefits of receiving an AP score. I also agree with the above comment, however, it would most likely be looked upon with favor to increase EC involvement instead. Unless you’re planning on majoring in CS or an Environmental Science in college, you can probably do without.

At many schools you can take two lab sciences at the same time because of scheduling so bio and chem in the same year won’t work. Talk to the guidance counselor.
