Is this justifyable for appealing admission into Ball State?

I didn’t know if this is where I should post this…

but basically, my first three years of high school I had a horrible home life. I barely came to school, was never motivated to do my work and had a weighted 1.7 GPA going into my senior year.

To make it short, I was living in a single parent household since about 4th grade, in my 8th grade year, my mother started doing hard drugs. She lost her job at the beginning of my freshmen year. There were often times there were so many addicts in my home, there was nowhere for me to sleep but the floor. During my sophomore and junior year, she neglected to apply for food stamps, so we were getting VERY little money, most of which went to her addiction. I always had clothes and a little food. Most of the time I had hot water. By the end of my junior year, I’d missed 97 days in total, not counting the days I was late after walking to school due to not having an alarm clock so I could get up and catch the bus.

Before my senior year, I moved out of my moms and into her parent’s home. She is still my legal guardian, but I mostly avoid going back there. Since I moved, my GPA has gone from a 1.7 to 2.1. If I stay on track with my goals, I will have a 2.51 GPA when I graduate. (Retaking a couple classes online, three honors classes)

My counselors were suggesting I apply to Ball State because of my career interests, but do so, I’ll have to write a letter of appeal. I know that if I wasn’t in the situation I was, I’d probably be one of the top students in my school, my question is, is this enough for Ball State to accept me?

Have you applied to Ball State yet? Why not apply first and then worry about an appeal later.

By the way, I also took the ACT my junior year and got a 20, then took the ACT again in December and got a 24.

I haven’t applied to Ball State yet. I don’t know why, but they told me to email my letter to someone inside Ball State’s admissions office when I apply.

OP, if you are admitted, how are you going to afford Ball State?

If I get my 2.5, I’ll have a assisted tuition scholarship offered in Indiana, and the various grants. My family is pretty wealthy other than my mother.
