Perhaps he has Asperger's Syndrome. In that case, you could not blame his parents for his communicational impediments. Maybe he was just nervous. :p

He obviously had some severe developmental problems (like Asperger's Syndrome). It's not like he has a choice.

I doubt this person could function in a normal school environment and that is the reason he is being home schooled.

True, I didn't think of something like that.

Wow..he's not modest at all...S0ad is right...no social skills at all...He'll fit perfectly at CC...Jk...I like last years winner better...at least she seemed nice.

Ahahaha. Kerry Close goes to my school.

Damn freshman.

Though I have to say, we had a ghetto spelling bee one night for a school event, and she did not win.

The reporter was just BARELY masking her annoyance. At one point, she seemed so irritated.... He was being so condescending towards her!

Isn't there also this freshman at your school who got like a 2280 SAT in 8th grade?

Really? I know a senior who got a 1560 on the old SATs in 7th or 8th grade, but that's it. All I really know about the freshmen is that they clog up the hallways, PDA-ing too much.

wow 1560/1600 in 7th or 8th grade... pretty awesome! i wanna win a spelling bee kind of.... even better get on imo team... ahh that would be a dream come true

Poor kid. That reporter wanted to slap the crap outta him LOL

mr. Payne ... a developmental problem was the first thing that came to mind, he just didn't seem right, it was like the idea of interview was lost on him.

I dunno why he'd be on CC, he can already get into any college he wants - Honarable mention on USAMO along with this.

He got a perfect score on the AMC, a 10 on the AIME, and a 20 on the USAMO, all in 8th grade. Tell me he's not smart. You know what's odd? Before I even knew he won the spelling bee I knew he got a perfect score on the AMC and when I looked and saw that he was in 8th grade, I was like ***? What kind of parents would do that to their child? And now...it is confirmed...his parents cannot be good people. Also, I doubt a school like Harvard would accept someone with NO social skills whatsoever. He may not even be suitable for college.

Hahaha, that kid is hilarious. You go get them, Evan... Nobody spells a champ's name wrong! We have been forgiving of the subhuman species long enough!

Seriously though, you just wanted to shove that tuna sandwich down his throat and tell the interview lady to grow some self-respect. No job in the world can be worth putting up with THAT.

Yeah, this kid apparently got a 1590/1600 on the old SAT too in addition to the 2280. I don't know what the kid's name is but some of the freshmen and sophomores in my school knew about him. Just curious.

Hmm...know what town he's from?

Wow, I lost a lot of respect for this math whiz after seeing this.

You don't think they'd take the risk with someone who is likely 3 standard deviations smarter than the average Harvard Student?

You must be kidding. An intellect like this will have much interest.

oh dear, another blow to homeschooling and intelligent kids everywhere...I think he is one whose parents have lauded his intelligence in front of him since he was a tyke...the arrogance! And another thing, why was he relying on phonetics to spell that word? That is mistake numero uno at that level of spelling...gosh!

^Did you watch the national spelling bee? The contestant always has to check the pronounciation over and over again .. it's actually kind of funny, haha.

lol, he doesn't need to come to CC, he doesn't match...
