My daughter's ECs are probably the weakest part of her application. Is it...well...pathetic to include the fact that she was in the Broadway show The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee? She was chosen as one of four audience bee participants in the lobby before the show. They had to fill out a short application and then were interviewed.

That's not a real EC.

I thought you were going to say she's a performer in her spare time -- but that's not a real EC.

Your instinct that it would be viewed as pathetic is correct. It won't fly as an EC. It might make a fun essay, though.

the only way to make that an EC would be phrase in a way that would deceive the admissions officers into thinking that she was into acting and she acted in the show. But they might check up on it, and as you can see from the above posts, doing that would be highly unethical. it is true that it is pathetic and should not be put as an EC. i agree with jazzymom -- you could write an essay on it
Does she join any clubs? sports? instrument? even babysit?

I will add my opinion with the others. It is not an EC. My d went on stage too. It was fun. In fact, she was invited because she represented our area in the National Spelling Bee. Even that proably wont make it to her ECs or Honors (it was a middle school thing).

I wouldnt worry too much. ECs do help, but kids get into colleges without much.

Yeah, that was my instinct. She is a performer though and can probably work it into a short answer. Thanks for your thoughtful responses.

No EC. That's awesome, though - I was hoping to get picked, but I look too young (didn't want it clear that the actors were 35 years older than me when they're supposed to be playing kids).
