I got a 690 on my SAT subject test for Biology E. This is sort of expected because I did not put as much time into studying for it because I didn’t think it would deviate as much as it did from the AP Bio curriculum, of which I was studying at the same time. Could this score be potentially detrimental to my application? Note: As of now, I plan to apply as a biology major. Thanks for taking a look at this guys!
Where are you applying?
@DadTwoGirls Oh sorry, probably should have mentioned that. As of now, here is a rough list of some of the schools I have in mind: UCLA, USC, UCSB, UCSC, Cal poly SLO, U of Maryland, U of Virginia, U of Washington, and U of Michigan. Chances are these schools may change from now to the fall, but this is just where I am at now.
Bump
I don’t think it’s a terrible score, but since you’re applying as a bio major, it’ll probably be more helpful if you could raise your score to the mid/high 700s. And since you’ve taken ap bio already, reviewing an sat bio book for the extra material should be all you need.
Also, schools I am applying to : UCLA, UCSB, UCI, USC, UMich, UW: Madison, U of Washington, U of Maryland, U of Oregon,
I wouldn’t report the score.
Would you have the chance to retake it? I think it might be okay for U of Maryland and U of Oregon. I’m less sure of UWL Madison, and I would retake it for the rest. On the whole, I think it would be helpful to have a strong score in the subject test in the area you want to study, even if the college doesn’t specifically require it.
Are you required to submit a subject test for those schools? Do you believe your application is lacking without the submission of a (700+) subject test? I guess I put a lot less weight on these tests than others do. Most who are admitted to competitive schools simply don’t take them, unless it’s required as part of the application.
By the way, the 690 isn’t bad - but since you have AP Bio on your transcript you should probably submit something over 700, should you choose to submit.
You can try to retake the test, but don’t sweat it. 690 isn’t bad. My cousin got into UCLA with a 690 in Bio E with a phycology major.
UCs dont even require you to take the tests anyways. However, doing them do help make your application look better, and a 690 shows that you have a stable foundation in Biology.
best of luck
Probably submit it. For the schools that don’t recommend them, it is OK, For the schools that are looking for SAT IIs, it is worth submitting if you don’t have better ones in other subjects.
