is this schedule easy to handle?

im an incoming freshman for next fall 2011, and im intended to major psychology major and a pre med student.

Freshman year:

1st semester: Anthro 3AC (4 units), Slavic R5A (4 units), Chem 1A (4 units) , Chem 1AL (1unit) , DeCal pre med 101 (1/2 unit)

2nd semester: Chem 3A (4 units), Chem 3AL (1 unit), Political science 1 (4 units), Asian American Studies 20A (4 units)

which R&C would you recc (idk about Slavic R5A), that is an easy A, i honestly want to take it at a community college, it that a good idea? will it be looked down upon by med school?

Sophomore year:

1st semester: Bio 1B (4 unit), Anthro 1 (4 units), Chem 3B (4 unit), Chem 3BL (1 unit)

2nd semester: Bio 1A (4 units), Bio 1AL (1 units), Math 16A (4 units), Physics 8A (4 units)

junior year:

1st semester: Math 16B (4 units), Physics 8B (4 units), Psychology 101 (4 units), Viet 100A (5 units)

2nd semester: Viet 100B (5 units), Psych elective upper division, psych decade upper division, psych breadth upper division

Senior year:

2nd semester: Psych elective upper division, psych decade upper division, MCB 102 (4 units), Public Health 175 (3 units)

can you give opinions on this schedule, and how manageable it is. i want to maintain a high GPA, so i tried to spread out the hard classes..., please help, thanks in advance.
and also, is pre med Decal popular, does it fill up quickly?

hmmmm this looks like its pretty well balanced to me. but you are missing a few classes. for the quantitative, you need stats 2, 20/21 or math 54/55. have you taken this previously or AP-ed instead?

what is ph 175?

you dont need anthro 1 because 3ac should be sufficient. (1 wouldnt count anyway)

also, psych 101 is a stats course. so it possible, maybe you can switch it for a decade instead so you are not doing three math-heavy classes in one semester. 101 does not have to be taken instantly after you are a declared major as the advisors might have you believe.

thirdly, i dont know if you are aware. but psych breadth is actually a subset of decades and electives. it just means that of the 7 upper divs, they want you to take one from each of the 4 areas (bio/cognition, clinical, dev, social/personality). (as of now, you have 8 non-101 upper divs when you really only are required to have 7 to get the degree)

so far, i have credits from AP psych and AP stats.

yeah, im kinda confused about my junior and senior year.
i think ph 175 was one of the courses that fulfills the 7 breadth requirements for L&S, i didnt know what else to take.

so instead of anthro 1, should i take integrative biology 35AC? both fulfills the Evolution category for psych major. i just thought anthro 1 would be easier, what do you think?

“thirdly, i dont know if you are aware. but psych breadth is actually a subset of decades and electives. it just means that of the 7 upper divs, they want you to take one from each of the 4 areas (bio/cognition, clinical, dev, social/personality).
can you explain what you mean by this? im a little confused on this part

Don’t take the premed DeCal, that seems pretty useless right now… Use internet resources to find the info you need to get into med school… That course I heard usually just intimidates most premeds… and plus, wouldn’t help your app much.

Also, perhaps i am missing something, but i think you should throw in your 16a/1a math course right off the bat seeing as med schools req >1 year of calculus and disregard APs. also these are often pre reqs to upper div science courses.

Math 16A/16B are 3 units each. Not 4.

oh, thanks for the correction, i have to add another class to that semester then.

anyone else have any other opinions, these are really helpful so far, thank you guys!!

How hard is it to get into the psychology major?

It’s really not that hard as long as you pass the pre-reqs with a 3.2 GPA.

There are a lot of folks in the major though…

are there any other opinions? i have my calso 2morrow, thanks =]

is slavic r5A supposed to be really easy?
