Is this schedule too difficult?

Would I be able to do well with this schedule, or would it be too difficult? I will be taking AP Biology, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, and AP World History. I've taken Honors Biology and Honors World History already so I have a bit of background knowledge, and English is my best class (throughout high school I've always had above 95). I'm not too good at math so I'm taking AP Stats instead of Calc. I have an interest in all of the classes, but do you think I will be overloaded with work? I'm taking other classes as well but they're all electives and not much to worry about. I will be in 2 after school clubs and I have 3 hours worth of weekly lessons in other activities not related to school. My schedule is not yet finalized and I have until the first week of August to figure everything out. Will I have enough time to commit to these classes? I'm just afraid I'm underestimating the difficulty and workload of my schedule.

You know your capabilities best. Have you taken AP’s before? AP Statistics is pretty easy, but the other 3 can be very time-consuming depending on the teacher.

@skieurope I’ve never taken an AP class because my previous high school did not offer them. I was in all honors, but apparently the rigor of an AP class does not compare to an honors class. The closest I’ve ever come to an AP class was helping my friend who attended a different school study for APUSH.

When you say they can be very time-consuming, how much time do you mean? Obviously it differs from teacher to teacher, but can you make a generalization? I will have about 3-4 hours after every school day to study.

45-60 minutes per class, not counting major papers/lab reports, in my experience.

You should be able to handle it, but there will be a heavy workload. If you’ve already taken an honors world history course, you might want to take APUSH next year instead (assuming its a grad req) and see if you still want to take another history course after that. Lit, Bio and World will have the most work associated with them. Also, stat is fine, but if you’re looking to be a competitive applicant with the most exclusive colleges, I would seriously consider Calc.

When it comes to approaching large workloads, I try to have fun with it. If you don’t let yourself get bogged down by the fact that you have work, it’s easy to actually enjoy the class and truly gain something from what you are learning. So, if you are passionate about these subjects, I think you should go for it. At the very least, try it out for a week. If your show your interest in the subject, a teacher will be more than willing to help you succeed.

@Matt846 I don’t want to take APUSH next year because I’ve already taken 3 years of American History. I could take the AP test without taking the course and pass it at this point. I can’t take anymore history courses after that-- this year is my senior year. I’m not looking to get into an Ivy League or anything, and I’m pretty sure that I would spend more time on AP Calc than the three other AP courses combined because I’m just that bad at math. I don’t understand it at all and every year since sixth grade has been a struggle with math.

At my school, 12th graders are limited to WHAP. APUSH is for juniors and AP European History is for sophomores, so I have no choice but to take WHAP (if I were to take an AP course. There are other options that are not AP).

Depends on the person but those are 4 pretty easy APs. Not a hard schedule at all, even with electives and ECs.

I think that’s a great schedule, it’s challenging but not overbearingly so. I’ve heard that world history is really hard (at least in my school, might be because of the teacher though) but all the other classes are not too stressful. You’ll have plenty of time for your other obligations

@sillyface @ajtalkar thanks for the feedback! I ended up replacing AP Biology with AP Physics 1 and after receiving the summer work and the syllabus for each class, I’m not too worried anymore. I’m new to this school so I didn’t really know what to expect from each teacher and class.

@ckoepp127 if that’s not a difficult schedule, then what would you consider to be difficult?
