Hello! I’m a straight A student, and am taking APWH this year (A Avg.)
Though I’ve only taken one AP (with the hardest teacher in the school, but I have an A despite some sleepless nights), I was thinking of jumping to 4 next year.
AP Lit
APUSH
Func/Anl. Geom
Fashion Mktg
AP Physics 1
AP Capstone Crit Reas
PAP Spanish IV
Do you think this is too hard of a schedule for junior year? I’m also taking my SATs. Please do not think of it as “4 APs, that’s too much/little!” but rather how each individual class may be a lot easier or harder than the average AP, and whether they might fit for me
English has always been one of my favorite subjects, APWH has been hard but I’ve managed. I heard from some CC people that AP Physics 1 is easier than reg. (don’t know why)? Capstone I heard is a breeze, and I can manage spanish (though I’m jumping from REGULAR spanish III this year).
Also, if I’m on the way of a potential marketer (not sure yet), should I drop analyt and take AP Stat instead?
Thank you so, very much for your time! Please note that I’m not taking these to impress colleges, but I’ve gained so much more insight in AP World than regular world history and I wish to repeat it, yet not overload for my SATs
AP Physics 1 has a dismal passing rate (only 4% 5s and 13% 4s) on the exam though the class itself isn’t too hard, and AP Literature is mainly a senior course (do you have AP Lang at your school?) You should be fine with APUSH, especially if you’re doing well in APWH and history essay questions.
Also, by analyt do you mean Function Analysis/Trigonometry? I wouldn’t recommend interrupting the Calc sequence with AP Stats, as Stats should be an elective math course.
I think you’ll be fine with your schedule for next year <3
@Muufeen Thank you so much for your input! I heard that sometimes AP Physics 1 is considered easier than reg. physics (again, completely confused as to why)? And I was wondering if it was necessary to take all the exams as well. AP Lit is considered AP Eng 11, and Lang is 12, but I’m trying my best to convince my counselor thanks to your advise. I do mean Function Analys/Trig., but the thing was, what if I am thinking about becoming a marketer?
AP Physics 1 only consists of mechanics, so I think that’s why? Sometimes, regular physics is AP Physics 1 and 2 but at a less rigorous level, while AP Physics 1 only focuses on mech., but I’ll have to look into that. Also, it’s designed for people with no physics knowledge (unlike the previous AP Physics B), which can also cause the ridiculously bad exam pass rates.
For English, AP Language is often the 11th grade course because:
It develops critical thinking and rhetorical analysis which can help in AP Lit
More 11th graders take it than 12th graders statistically.
If you look at the schedules for 11th graders in other posts, you should find that more juniors take AP Lang than AP Lit, so try using that to convince your counselors. Lang is more of a general English class around rhetoric and expository writing (persuasive, rhetorical analysis, synthesis are the essays), so they can help whenever you have to write in college apps. Meanwhile, Lit is all about reading and literary analysis, which is generally harder and more demanding, though difficulty is subjective.
Function Analysis and Trig is pretty important, as it is a Precalculus class and is necessary to advance onto Calc and higher maths. Perhaps you could put Stats in senior year? Generally, colleges want to see students take math up to Precalc and Calc, and it is not recommended to take a break between calc prep courses (Algebra 1–>Geometry–>Algebra 2 --> Precalc/Function Analysis and Trig–>Calc) because they are so interconnected, especially Algebra and Function Analysis. I would take FAT junior year and fit Stats and Calc in senior year. If not, look at community college courses, as Statistics is a common class offered in cc’s.
Also, you actually don’t have to take all of the exams, unless there’s a school policy which I highly doubt. AP exams are optional, but they are highly beneficial if you pass the exam. I would take all of the AP exams, as Physics should be fine if you study and Lit/Lang/APUSH are pretty standard junior APs.
