Is this sentence correct??

I was wondering if it's legal to write a sentence like the following, because it's in past tense, and then after the (-) its in present tense, kind of like a realization or side note to the reader.

"The idea of being able to create new worlds for others to explore, limited only by my imagination, was such a baffling thought – even writing this sentence is making my fingers tingle with excitement."

It’s cool. Don’t worry.

I would change “is making” to “makes.” Could be just me though.

Nothing’s wrong about it, but Hollande’ssuggestion is an improvement.
