I'm working on an essay for the second prompt on the common app and I'm writing about a time when I was shy in speech class and how it affected me and what I learned about myself. However, I feel like it might sound too much like explaining away a bad grade (I got a C in the class, which is the lowest grade in my high school career). Is it too much of an explanation for a bad grade, or will it work, assuming I focus more on what I learned about myself?

I think it’s a great way to explain the lowest grade of your career and show what you learned about yourself. Colleges don’t expect everyone to be cut from the same mold. Show you are unique; introspective. Good luck! (I hated speech class too.)
