Is this true about colleges?

My friend is a computer science major at stanford and he told me that if i can get a stanford professor to write me a letter of rec, that i will have a much higher chance of acceptance.
My friend stats:

3.4 uw gpa
2170 sat
He helped a professor with research during his senior year, and the prof wrote him a rec for colleges.
Is it safe to say that he got in because of that rec?
And will it higher my chances of admission?

Thanks

To Stanford? Your GPA would keep you out of Stanford almost without exception.

@awesomepolyglot
Those are not my stats.

Those are the stats my friend applied with and he got accepted. But im 100% sure that it was the rec from stanford prof that got him accepted

Would be very difficult to obtain, but yes, that would drastically increase chances… One of their own. The adcom may have take one of his classes, or know him personally. So yes, if you could manage that somehow (if so, please share) then you would increase chances.

If i had the skills, i would approach a professor and ask him/her if i can help. They WONT care how old you are… If you can do the work and are hard working , youre set.
Just have to find a professor whose doing work that interests you
But yea im trying hard to find a prog. If not stanford it will increase my chances for other top cs schools.

Just try not to make it THAT obvious… 45 minutes after meeting the professor “hey, by the way, can you write me a recommendation?”

yea i know. that would be rude to begin with lol.
I would ask after i helped him/her for a while
