<p>No, Harvard looks at all four years. However, Stanford and Princeton among others remove the freshman year and look only at the rest.</p>

<p>For the most part, it's true but with bad luck, you'll apply to a college that looks at all 4 years and see that you just didn't care in 9th. Not good.</p>

<p>so if you have great grades or win a gold medal at IMO or something in freshman year, they won't notice?</p>
<p>No accomplishments will go unnoticed, trust me, colleges try to make a case for you to get in for the most part. They can't take that away from you.</p>
