I’m planning on taking the SAT this weekend. I have a 2260 currently, with a 800 W, 700 CR, and 760 M.
The only reason I wan to take it again is for the superscore, since my cr is somewhat lower.
Is it worth it, and do colleges look down if 1) your cumulative score worsens 2) in general, you take it three times
Most colleges will only care about your superscore and right at about 2250 is when the colleges don’t care as much but if you personally feel that you can break 2300 then I say go for it, sometimes it’s just nagging to think “maybe if I had just taken it one more time”. Clear your conscious and take it.
My D took SAT 3 times, ACT once & was admitted to one of the 20 most selective colleges
3 is fine. So is 4.
What if it goes down though? Is it worth the risk with my current score
2260 is certainly not a top-tier score. Re-taking is essential. The question is: re-take now or later?
If you retake now, there is a risk that your score will be lower. For colleges that require you to report all scores (many privates, especially Ivies, do), there is a risk that your score will be lower and that is almost certain death in admissions seasons.
I’d advise study hard and re-take in October. If you must retake now, remember: it’s not too late! Study as much as you can. Message me for more advice, I hope this helped (FYI I scored a 2390).
@goldenbear2019 – What are you talking about? 2260 is a fantastic score! I can’t speak for how admissions will see another retake but if the OP chose not to take it again I sincerely doubt it would hurt them.
@radmadeline I think it depends on the applicant. For a lot of schools, IMO, the “average score” is not helpful because these people are truly exceptional and they got in despite their test scores, not because of them. Malala’s SAT score probably doesn’t matter, but unless OP is on that level of distinction I think retaking is a good idea
2260 is fantastic, yes indeed. That said, for super-selective schools, I’d try again to get CR up to that 750+ level. If I didn’t think I could do it, I’d stop, though, and would do the same if prepping for that would have significant opportunity costs.
@marvin100 Thanks, I think I’ll take your advice for stopping, since I have one day to prep and CR has always been my weakest section
There ya go. Best of luck to you, @Kna477 , and congrats on a great score!
