Is three weeks enough time to prepare for SAT II Math Level 1 and Literature?

I registered for the tests that are going to take place on January 23, 2016, but I only have three weeks to prepare for two SAT II tests? I heard that the Literature test is very hard, but what about Math Level 1? It seems as if a lot of people talk a lot about Math Level 2, but I would like to know the difficulty level of the Level 1 test. Share your scores on these two tests below, and make some suggestions as to how I can prepare for these two tests in twenty days when school is about to start. I have The Official SAT Subject Tests in Mathematics Levels 1 and 2 Study Guide from College Board and SAT Subject Test: Literature from Kaplan’s 2010-11 version. Are these two study guide books going to be enough, and is the 2010-11 version going to be outdated for the 2016 test? I really want to earn high scores on these tests, but I feel doomed because of their challenges. I feel like I need to focus more on the Literature test because I have difficulty understanding some of the passages. I tried marking the passages, but I still ended up having to interpret, which gets me stuck a lot of the times. As for math, I tried looking at the answer explanations when I didn’t understand some of the questions? How hard do I have to study, and is there hope for me to earn high scores?

Literature can be tricky to study for. It’s kinda one of those “you either know it or you don’t.” topics. I’d suggest bringing the prep books to an English teacher and having them help you out. I honestly think “studying” for literature is harder than studying for anything else.

As for math 1, you could focus your time more there. I’ve heard the curve for the math 1 test isn’t generous at all. Spend more of your time on math level 1 studying.

I studied for 2 weeks for Math 1 and Literature. I got a 690 on Math 1 and 710 on Lit. I would recommend Princeton Review for Math 1. That definitely helped me. I didn’t pace myself well and had to leave like 8 blank but I must’ve only gotten like 4 wrong if I still got a 690. Definitely take the College Board official Math 1 practice test and time yourself. For Lit I used Kaplan and just kept reading passages. Always read the explanations for why you got questions wrong. Kaplan was easier in my opinion because I would consistently get 0-1 wrong per passage on Kaplan but I struggled on test day. If you study a bit everyday for 2 weeks you will definitely be fine!

I agree that you can’t really prepare for the lit test, short of already having a solid background of analytical reading.

But definitely take a couple of practice tests anyway, just to get a feel for it. There’s an official practice test released by College Board in their SAT Subject Test practice book that I found to be a good indicator of what I actually scored - within 40 points, if I recall correctly.

The only preparation I’d recommend for the Lit test is a thorough review of literary terminology. The only other thing you need is familiarity with English from around the world and through time and the ability/interest to conduct a cursory analysis of the text.
