Is Transferring for me?

Hello all, I am a sophomore attending school in Colorado but I am an out of state student. At some time throughout this school I seriously began to consider transferring not for social reasons or because I am unhappy, but for a better program and to save money.

My experience at my current school has been quite enjoyable socially, I belong in a couple of great group of friends which is something I didn’t experience throughout high school and my earlier childhood. However, at the same time the engineering program I belong to is not ranked which was never a big deal for me but now might be going through a bit of an overhaul.

Despite my program not being rank, I have yet to feel as if I have been missing out on anything. I have learned a great deal at my current institution and I think my educational experience so far would be similar across the board at other engineering schools. With that said, if my program does go through a small overhaul I do not want to get left-behind. Thus, I have been contemplating transfer to my state flagship school.

The big advantage of transferring is that I will save a lot of money – the current school I attend does cost a lot and money won’t prevent me from staying there but that money could go towards a down payment on a house or whatever later on. Also, I would be transferring to a higher-ranked engineering school although the institution that I am at now ranks higher than my state school. Correspondingly, the school I am at now has excellent networking for after graduation and an excellent study abroad program which I would be able to take advantage of since I’m ahead from APs and whatnot.

Err… such an inner struggle on figuring out what to look for when considering transfer. Should I place a higher importance on social transition? I know my social life would be similar to what it was before college if I were to transfer. My thought process is very disorganized right now…

if you are doing well socially and academically at your current institution i would stay...often times people transfer and they are completely miserable because they have to start a new social life and struggle to make friends...it is a very tough transition for most people...transferring is something i recommend you not be wishy-washy about

if you wish to transfer to save money, you will likely go to an institution that is ranked lower than your current one anyway...

my two cents
