Is UA a good school?

University of Alabama, that is. I've always said that I would never go there, but I went on a tour recently, and its really pretty, bigger than I thought it was, offers amazing scholarships, and, hello, bama football.

But, I was wondering if this was a school that isn't so great, if football (and tennis) was all it was good for. My fellow CC's are far better versed in prestige than I, and I just gotta know.

Be concerned about more than just the name of the school you're attending. See if it offers good programs in the major you like. Visit a lot if it's nearby, and talk to upperclassmen. Talk to honors students - see if this is somewhere that you will do well and fit in. I had pretty good grades - 94. something gpa, ranked 5/160, but I chose to go to a state university because I thought it was an excellent fit for me. Basically, don't get tied up in the desire to go to a big name school if you feel comfortable at UA and it has what you want. All that said - definitely check out EVERYTHING - see if what the ivies offer is what you're looking for!

If you were to be admitted to the honors system there and do well, you would have a good chance of being admitted to a good graduate school as long as you meet other requirements (GRE scores etc.)

thanks.

anyone else? does anyone know if it is prestigous in any way? did i misspel "prestigous?"

The correct spelling is 'prestigious' if you really wanted to know, but I get the sense that you figured that out already.

thanks... i knew that looked funny

anyone else?

Auburn pw3ns Alabama. War Eagle.

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL Tide!

ach, my whole family went to auburn...

The university itself takes a back seat to some of the other Southern colleges (Furman, Clemson, etc.), but the Honors College is pretty well-known. "Prestigious," not exactly, but definitely reputable.

At least the college is not as bad as places like Cleveland State, which stinks, mainly because they have no admissions policy. If the school bothered to have one the school would be very good, similar to Case Western Reserve on the eastern half of the city. Of the big state schools I would say that AL is high on the list in that region, but no, it won't beat places like Clemson or UNC-CH.

or, say, wake forest

does it beat auburn/mississippi state/ole miss/ mississippi university for women?

what about a full ride to somewhere like furman and a full ride to the honors college and computer-based honors at UA?

b/c i could never get a full ride to furman...

oh, sorry..i was talking about for myself b/c im trying to decide between the two right now.

but yeah, bama's honors program makes bama a better school...it depends what you want to study though...im from out of state and have been down to visit several times. their scholarship packages are really good too.

from what i've heard, the english and education departments are good
