Is UC San Diego worth going to off the waitlist?

Hi! I JUST got off the waitlsit from UCSD. I was originally going to go to SDSU, but now that UCSD has taken me off the waitlist, I was wondering if it was worth me to go to UCSD. At SDSU I would have priority in picking classes, but I feel like I’m screwed when it comes to picking classes if I go to UCSD because people are already picking orientation dates, and I would get last date. Also, I feel like I would be screwed with housing. I heard waitlist people are put in apartments. I would much rather be in dorms because it would be easier for me to make friends and be social. I feel like if I were put in an apartment, I would be isolated from everyone else. Can someone please give me some advice!

If finances and getting your major are not an issue, I would go with UCSD. You will be able to find friends regardless of which housing you are in. If you have bad luck with apartment roommates, make friends by joining an organization and line up roommates for the next year.

What major did you get into at UCSD vs SDSU, and did you forgo other UC already for SDSU? That’d tell me where you came from. On the surface the reasons you mention do not nearly make up for the delta between the two schools, but I am thinking why’d you not already know it. Something else must be in play.

Pretty sure certain amount of seats per class are given to each orientation date so equal chances (not the case at Berkeley though!)!

At UCSD orientation and picking classes are totally separate

^ You don’t pick your classes at orientation like other schools. There’s a predetermined date when you will sign up for classes online.

In any case, you’re talking about 1 quarter of classes and 1 year of living vs. 4 years at a school.

Oh yah totally forgot haha! At orientation, I believe they tell you how to pick classes. Not sure on this, but I think in August you can start picking?
