Im stuck between UCLA and UCSB right now and I can't decide what I want more, prestige or fun! I really want the education, opportunities and bragging rights of going to UCLA but I'm worried that I'll just be busting my ass all the time trying to make grades and I wont be able to really enjoy the "college experience". Are there any 4/20 ppl at UCLA? Are the parties good? Is it really that hard??

No. No one at UCLA smokes weed. Not a single person.

420?

Ucsc

What a weird question to ask on a college discussion forum! And ironically, this is probably the million dollar question…

"Are there any 4/20 ppl at UCLA? Are the parties good? Is it really that hard?? "

No, but there are a lot of people that will tell you that 4/20 = .2! Hope that helps lol. (& good use of sarcasm, diontexmas)

There are plenty of people at UCLA who enjoy their experience, but if your main concern is having “fun” then I would rethink your priorities.

UCLA is a lot of fun (fraternities, sororities, football and basketball games, etc), but it is also a lot of hard work.

Actually fraternity and sorority life on campus is not a main part of the experience at UCLA, except for a particular (largely elitist) segment of campus. There are also plenty of community service opportunities, cultural organizations (which do everything from recruit High School students to put on some pretty incredible cultural events), and everything from intramural sports to open mic’s at one of the campus cafes.

I think this brings up an age-old debate about whether you should have fun your undergrad years, or focus on solely your education. Wishy-washy middle ground types aside, because everyone is going to say they’re centrist…

I think UCLA errs on the more conservative side of that debate. Sure, you can probably seek out some fun, but it is one school for very serious-minded students.

UCLA = University of Chicago - Los Angeles? Where fun went to die?
