I just got accepted into UCLA and my whole family’s ecstatic about it but I’m at a dilemma right now. I applied to UCLA not because I really wanted to go there but just so I can say I got in, and where I really wanted to go was UCSB (to which I of course got accepted). People are gonna say oh that’s ridiculous but I’m really not the academically motivated type and the only reason I had the qualifications to get into UCLA was because my parents are asian and forced me to try hard. And I’m not lazy and I actually care about my future, it’s just that when I go to college I want to party and study at a good college, and I know UCSB provides the perfect balance (perhaps with a slightly excessive emphasis on the former). My parents are forcing me to go UCLA (or Berkeley if I get accepted and probably will) and I’m afraid that everyone there is just gung-ho about studying and have no fun. Also, and this is a serious question, is UCLA weed friendly? Is there a sizable stoner population there? I’m not a drug addict or anything and I don’t care what you anti-drug people out there think about me but it’s something I enjoy with moderation and a part of my life. UCSB has a reputation of being a stoner school but what’s it like at UCLA? Thanks.
At a school with thousands of people in it like UCLA, you’re going to find all kinds of people. There are some people that study all the time and aren’t very social, but most people are really nice and pretty social.
That being said, you can literally do whatever you want. If you want to go to party hard every night, then you can easily do that assuming you know the right people.
UCLA, like all other colleges, has people that use drugs. Besides alcohol, weed is the most common drug here, and while a large portion of the student body doesn’t smoke, a sizable amount does (not nearly as large as the portion that smokes at SB or Berkeley however). So assuming you make the right friends and know the right spots to smoke, you can chill whenever you want. That being said, I sincerely hope that you don’t make your decision of which school to attend based off the ease with which you can smoke…
