I heard the only people that attend there are hippies, and I heard they don’t have a football team, but shouldn’t it be a good school since it’s a UC? Also does UCSC have a gym and swimming pool for recreational use?
When I took my son’s on the round of college tours, my sister had mentioned the “so-called” reputation of UCSC. She echoed the same sentiments about hippies and everyone smoking pot etc… Both sons went on the tour with this preconcieved idea, but they were pleasantly surprised. They saw a variety of students that didn’t come close to the “hippie” description. The campus is beautiful with the redwoods everywhere. You would be taking a daily hike through the forest to get to class everyday. No one can tell you what UCSC is like, you need to visit and experience it yourself. Here is a link to the campus map and yes they have a Gym and pools. The majority of the UC’s do not have Football teams (UCI/UCSD/UCSB/UCR/UCM/UCSC) but most have soccer teams, basketball teams…

UCSC is a very good school. Sure there are some dope smoking hippies - but, that’s true everywhere these days. It hardly describes the typical student.
Definitely not a “bad” school. Regardless of where you go, there’s going to be hippies, as well as people really focused on academics. It’s a nice campus, even more so if you’re into being outdoors. At the end of the day, it’s a UC.
No way, UCSC is a good school, just like the rest of the UCs.
