hahaha, UNC is definitely not anywhere close to having any racist tendencies. Trust me on this, I'm black. (Almost) everyone here is pretty awesome, even the die-hard conservatives. If you take a trip to Chapel Hill, you'll know what I'm talking about. But that's not to say there aren't a few bad apples.

I do firmly believe that the Young Democrats had a role in NC going blue this year. To say that they did it themselves is a little ridiculous, but I really do believe they made an impact.

That's a nice sentiment to have I guess but the statistics just don't back it up at all. The majority of kids and professors here are liberal to begin with and I seriously doubt the few hundred kids that may have changed their minds made any difference at all.

I remember seeing a breakdown of the demographics and it proved that the youth vote, nor the vote around UNC, was definitely not instrumental in NC going blue.

UNC is well known for its diversity. not sure where you got that info.

ok in all honesty, uva is DEFINITELY the more racist school. it's wealthier and more conservative. UNC is very, very liberal.

Let's not equate political ideology with racism. The idea that people who think differently from you are more likely to be ignorant racists is absolutely ridiculous. That in itself is a form of bigotry because it's a totally false assumption, as evidenced by the accepting nature of virtually all UNC students.

UNC is far from racist. in fact, it's pretty liberal.

I'm not sure it's true that UNC's students are very liberal. There is definitely a strong liberal presence on campus and on the faculty side of things, but there are a lot of moderate students, too. And none of that has anything to do with race or racism. UNC students are just kind, accepting people.

To answer the original question, UNC is not "racist" at all. Everyone I have met is equally accepting of all races, cultures, backgrounds etc. If you looked really hard, I suppose you could find a some prejudice... but you would really have to try. It's a great school.

that website is not a reliable depiction of what students think of unc. the kids who post on the website are bitter kids who probably got rejected. I would not make such an outlandish statement based on a few comments on a website. Racism is everywhere, there is no doubt about that, but UNC is not a place that fosters that kind of sentiment.

I said they had a role, I didn't say they did it by themselves. Remember they registered over 5,000 voters.

yes but you implied that the role was integral to NC turning blue which is just not true. Obama won by well over the 5,000 they registered so while their role was not inconsequential, it was very nearly so when you look at the big picture.

Are you seriously starting an argument over what I meant? I think I know what I meant in my post better than you do.

Anyway, the point is that UNC is not racist. I've never once met someone that thought it was.

i agree with you about YD, heathergee!

Well since you seem to have some sort of covert meaning other than the one that seems obvious upon reading your post then why don't you explicate it? I'm honestly curious how you think the YD played a significant role in this election.

I'm not arguing over what you "meant" because you can say you meant any number of things, the only thing that matters is what you posted.

whatever, just disregard that last post. This is a stupid argument and I honestly don't care anymore. I would delete the post itself but it won't allow me to.

There is racism everywhere. As a student of color, I am sure that you will be fine at UNC. There are plenty of ethnic organizations here too.

UNC in general is not racist, but that does not imply that everyone there is all nice and dandy. People have beliefs based on how they grew up, and some things just don't change.
