I'm a senior in high school and I got accepted to Manoa. I visited a couple months ago and I absolutely loved the vibe but I'm not too informed about their academics and stuff like that in general. I also got accepted to a UC and am currently deciding between the two. I know UC's have a reputation for their academics, but I still want to know if Manoa is a good school and their pros and cons and such.

It’s the University of Hawaii - Manoa campus. If you currently live in Hawaii and plan to live there when done with college, UH is a good choice. You wouldn’t ask the question if you already lived there. Notwithstanding, you can compete a 4 year degree in 4 years, something that is becoming increasingly more difficult at the UCs. The school enjoys a fairly decent, local reputation in HI. If you are looking to go there from California, it’s not a bad option re cost. The Western College Exchange (or a program similarly named) should make the OOS tuition about equivalent to UCs. Also, if you do reasonably well at UH, you used to be able to transfer to the UCs fairly easily.
If you are merely looking to skate through college and see UH as a place to do it, well, frankly, it might work. However there are excellent schools at UH, including marine biology, Asian studies.

What are your parents saying? Are they willing to pay about $30k per year for COA and Hawaii travel? If so, then super.

However, if attending a UC means getting Cal Grants, UC grants and other aid, then likely UH won’t be affordable since you won’t get those aids there.

What is your intended major or career?

(keep in mind that the cost of living is very high in Hawaii)
