I am only interested in living in California or Hong Kong after graduation and beyond. </p>

<p>Where is your citizenship? If Hong Kong, do you have permanent residence (a green card) in the United States?</p>
<p>It’s unwise to assume that you’ll be able to live and work in the United States unless you already have citizenship or permanent residence thereof. If not, you can still hope for the best and choose a university which has a solid name in California. But it should also be well known in your country of citizenship or permanent residence.</p>

There are millions and millions of Asians. It would be impossible to conclude which
American universities are well known in the various countries.</p>
<p>USC has offices in Asia and many students do attend from China, in particular. Well known companies have sponsored the Marshall School’s business conferences. Sponsoring companies have been: Fubon Intl., Hanjin Shipping, Tingyl Holding Corp, Capital Services Group, Sataki & Trianz, Korean Air Lines, The Japan Times, Edelman Japan, InterSoft, Suntory, Toyota, EXchange, ITRI, Sunrider and RunZhou Dist. Govt. (China) among others.
Obviously, these companies are aware of the university.</p>

<p>USC has sixteen active alumni groups in Asia. One alumni group in China recently donated $140,000 toward the new student center at USC. The Asian Pacific Alumni Association in California sponsored 27 scholarships last year and donated $400,000, in addition, to the university.</p>
<p>In this year’s Class of 2014 there are more than 10 students from the International School of Singapore. </p>

<p>Yes, I would say USC is a good choice if you wish to settle down in California.</p>
<p>I’m originally from California, and USC is known but it’s seen somewhat as a “jock school.” Further, its nickname is the “University of Spoiled Children” because a lot of students come from affluent families.</p>
<p>I would actually think it might be important to know whether OP wants to settle down in So Cal or Nor Cal. I would pick Berkeley for Nor Cal… Actually I think I would pick Berkeley period. I think it is the best school on the list.</p>

<p>USC compared to Berkeley and UCLA is pretty unknown. There are alums for almost every school school in Asia, but to say that USC is a well known school is far from the truth. There is a difference be “known” and “know of”. USC is in the 'know of" category only for a select few Asians. USC Marshall is very much a regional school, and does not have strong international footprint, which can be seen from the job placement in Asia (for both BBA and MBA).</p>
<p>Since I haven’t been to Berkley yet, I only have my opinion on UCLA and USC.</p>
<p>UCLA is an okay University to go to, but it has one of the higher crime rates, or so I’ve heard. From my experience, the campus is nice and it has a great diversity of food (steak, sushi, etc.). However, When you go find an apartment, it goes downhill from there. There are lots of apartments nearby UCLA, but lots of them have high prices and often times are not the best quality, for a specific apartment my sister lived in brought in used and stained furniture (and offered used beds) and lied about cleaning the apartment. </p>
<p>USC I do not have as much of an opinion, but I’m aware that it’s near Downtown LA and that if you go there, be prepared to see a overload of money (One of my teacher’s former students went to USC and decided to go to Berkley after because of how “rowdy” the students were). Also, the Police here carry real guns, so you know you’ll be safe.</p>
<p>However, USC has a great alumni network, so if you were to settle in California, I would recommend USC.</p>

<p>The crime rate at UCLA is terribly high. there are even staff members at UCLA who would come to your dorm to give you a ride where ever you need to go to late at night. Having a sister who goes to UCLA, I’ve heard of all of the events that occur at UCLA and most of them aren’t pretty. Also, UCLA is around half an hour from downtown LA, so it’s still dangerous.</p>
<p>USC is in the ghetto, but the police at USC have guns, so it’s more safer than the tasers that UCLA police carry.</p>

<p>Oh my goodness… I actually went to USC and it is much more dangerous than UCLA. No contest… UCLA is in the city, but Westwood is much safer than the area immediately surrounding USC.</p>

<p>It doesn’t sound like any of you actually come from Southern California.</p>
<p>If you want to live in Southern California, many of the colleges have a very strong network and presence here. USC’s is one of the strongest, and the days of being the University of Spoiled Children are long over-- it used to be that, but now it is much, much harder to get into and is more academically rigorous.</p>
<p>Other schools with strong alumni networks and good local reputations here are Occcidental College, Loyola Marymount, the Claremont colleges and, of course, UCLA. </p>
<p>If you want to be in Northern California and you want a strong network, you want Berkeley, Stanford or Santa Clara, with UC Davis as a possibility, too. There’s also a strong Stanford alum presence in Southern California.</p>
<p>I do live in Southern California (I’m a 9th generation Californian) and yes, I did meet some dangerous people there. A girl was raped in my co-ed dorm. My uncle was held up at gunpoint in the coliseum parking lot after a football game. I know what the heck I am talking about. They have cleaned up the area quite a bit but it is still dangerous. You just need to be cautious, esp. at night.</p>
