While your post is a bit haughty, maybe you’re not good enough for Wellesley? All joking aside, it might not be as well known as a big research university like Harvard or Stanford, but it’s among the BEST liberal arts colleges (we’re talking around the level of Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Swarthmore, Pomona, Carleton, Middlebury: the best of the best) and is without a doubt the most prestigious women’s college in the world.
The more appopriate question is if you’re good enough for them
I cringe whenever anyone asks about a college’s “prestige.” Obsession with name brands is unhealthy. If you go shopping for a new dress, find one that you like, fits perfectly, falls within your price range, but has an unfamiliar label, should you pass it over? Some people would, I realize, or will simply lament how unfair life is because they couldn’t afford a couture garment. Others will max out their credit cards to purchase an unbecoming status item, and resent it when they don’t impress everyone they meet with it. I wish I could say that you’ll outgrow a fixation on status brands, but I know all too well from experience that many people won’t.
So Wendy, where will you be this coming school year?
Echoing the others: “yes. Wellesley is prestigious.”
