Is writing section necessary?

I'm applying as transfer and taking the ACT for the first time in February...

Is it necessary to take the writing section? It costs extra money and it seems to be the equivalent of the SAT writing, where most colleges don't really care about it, because their own application essays are more important.

I'll be applying to ivies, washu, rice, emory, nu, etc.

Thanks!

Most, if not all, of the schools you mentioned require ACT +writing.

Take the writing. Most schools require it, or at least recommend it.

Unless you can't write at all, which I highly doubt, I would take the test. And yes, some schools that I can think of require it.

By the way, who said that schools don't care about writing? I'd imagine that they would care if your writing score was a two or three! Remember, they don't just view your score - they have an actual copy of your essay that they can refer to - so try your bestest!

I guess trying to will it away with words won't work.

I know that schools care about it; I was merely hyperbole-ing.

Thanks for the responses guys, looks like I have to pay more money now. Tear.
