is writing ur essay in third person too pretentious/detatched?

so i want to go into journalism and i thought that i might write my essay as a news story about myself. is that weird? will it be too pretentious or detatched?

ive heard both sides..

and does anyone know if boston u is a good journalism school?

normally i would advise against it, but in your case, it looks like it'll put you in a different perspecctive asn your intended major...so if i were you, i'd try that

it cud come out as really unique... make the whole thing and read it after 1 day ....if u feel it sounds cool and off track .. Hurrah!! and if you feel uncomfortable... make a new one.... Ure idea is gud and is no way too pretentious or detatched

hey banedon, why would u normally advise against it?

anyone else have other thoughts?

In general, it would look pretentious and would cause unnecessary distance between you and the adcoms. However, rules are made to be broken. If you can do a nice, creative job that gives the readers a good sense of your personality and interests, go for it. In the end, what will count will be your delivery.

IBclass06 says that it would be interesting...

That feels weird to write in 3rd person.

actually the presenter from harvard that came to my school said that writting in third person is a bad idea because it gives the reader the wrong impression.
although I find it more comfortable to write in third person than first when writting about myself.
