Is YES-W (likely letters + tour for prespective STEM majors) program still ongoing? And are international students included in this program?

Internationals are not included. I don’t think any YES-W invites have gone out yet. I got my notification on like the 23rd of my senior year, so we probably have another week before they star going out.

Are you sure internationals are not included? I couldnt find any info online

Historically (as in all of the past four YES-Ws), internationals haven’t been included. Travel expenses are too high.

@Bulldog2017 aah yes, thank you

was this for ED?

@thephysicist No, this is for about 100 really strong STEM RD applicants.

are these still going out? I in no way, shape, or form expect one (or even an acceptance for that matter…) but it would make me the happiest person alive if I got one

@RunningForLife no idea but judging by last year, they’ll keep on getting sent until the end of january

This program is ongoing and invites are going out this week for the event which is Feb 14-16th. Congrats to those handful of recipients!

**Note to those who don’t get an invite (and invariably whose worry level increases) This is no indication one way or another your eventual outcome. Indeed there are/will be Likely Letter recipients who may be left out of the YES-W program but you’re equally desired by Yale.

How do they determine these applicants? Does this mean they’ve screened all STEM majors or do they just pick a few hundred? Or do they look for key words like Siemens?

My daughter was told that they screen all STEM majors and pick 100 of them that they REALLY want - I am certain that there will be more than 100 STEM majors so don’t be concerned if you are a STEM major who didn’t get invited to YES-W. My niece, who lives in another state but also has stellar grades, scores, and awards, etc. is also applying RD for STEM but she hasn’t had her interview yet - it was scheduled for today but was postponed due to the blizzard. It would be great if they both could attend together.

The YES-W calls should have all gone out by now I think. I’m pretty sure the kids have to schedule flights by like Monday or something, so notification this late would be hard. If any more go out, it’ll probably be one or maybe two.

@3puppies‌ congrats to your daughter! You seem really nice/thanks for responding. Just curious what do you mean both attend, was your niece also invited?

A couple of years ago kid #1 received this invitation and has enjoyed the weekend there. Kid #1 ultimately chose to attend another school on a full ride scholarship. This year kid #2 has been admitted ED - so we will have to pay for the flight there :frowning: I do not think ED kids are invited to the YES weekend . Sadly.

My niece did not get the invite to YES-W, but she still has her RD application pending. Crossing our fingers for her. DD is so excited about this weekend, and I am nervous about even more snow in the forecast.

@Kelowna It sounds like you have an EA STEM student who’ll be going to YES-W, though not as part of the invited (and paid for) RD group. I didn’t realize that was an option for EA students—is it common?

Also, for those of you who do attend YES-W this year—or for parents of those students—if you could post your experiences and impressions when you return, that would be very helpful to EA students who weren’t invited!
