ISBN# needed

Does anyone who has the chem 3A materials have the ISBN/name of just the study guide? I am buying the package materials separately but don't know where to get the study guide. Do they only sell it in the bookstore?

bummppppp :(

do you really need the study guide?

i hardly used mine for pederson for 3A

i think the lecture notes/text were sufficient

i dont really know…i’ve heard mixed opinions. so far I have the textbook and the model kit. is that all i need? because if the study guide is useless or i can just look off of someone elses, then i dont get it. any experience chem 3A-survivers?

It is cheaper to buy the bundle at the student store is cheaper

Frechet will tell you at the beginning of class that you can use the old edition of the textbook (4th). It is significantly cheaper (only about $20) and the study guide is even less. The book is useful if you are a book reader and book problem solver. Otherwise, you dont even need a textbook or study guide. Study guide only provides answers to the problems with very brief explanation.

I recommend having the textbook as a resource and model kit if you need to visualize some things, but most people never used a model kit.

For Frechet, study his lecture notes and examples. Do the problems he assigns each week. Answers are also going to be put up. (These are all selected problems from the textbook/study guide.)

Also, last year, Frechet gave out free copies of the 5th edition book to people if you told him that you couldnt afford it.

Before getting the 4th edition, you should find out how book intensive is 3B with Vollhardt. Chances are you are probably intending on taking 3B in Fall '10 with Vollhardt.

Vollhardt teaches straight from the book (his powerpoint and examples are the same) since he is the one that wrote it. Still, it depends on whether you are a book person or not. And, the 4th edition is really not that much different.

So, should we buy Understanding the Prin of Organic Chemistry?

i am taking 3A this semester with frechet - actually there is a 6th edition out now, so i just bought the 5th because i wasn’t sure if he’d accept 2 editions behind. i guess i will hold off on buying the study guide until the class begins. well i think i will need a textbook because i need something to read (just how i learn), but thanks for everyone’s help i will definitely pay attention to lecture notes. and have fun with my model kit :)
