For the textbook for Chem 3A, is it important to have the latest edition(5th edition)? Or would the 4th edition also suffice? The reason I'm asking is because the student store is selling the 5th edition for $79 and Amazon has the 4th edition for literally $4. (Both used). (Definitely worth it if the content does not change dramatically or we don't have any specific in-book problem sets that are only found in the 5th edition or something. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

^i would really like to know the answer to this question too! i didnt even think of buying another edition, what did people last semester use? i was just going to buy a used 5th edition from amazon because thats still cheaper than the bookstore!

does anyone know what is required for Chem 3A and AL? Could someone post a list of the required materials and what they would actually recommend buying since the bookstore only says that there is a package that we have to buy?

the 4th edition would suffice i think. you don’t have to turn in homework or anything for chem 3a. there are recommended problem sets however. the numbering of the problems or something minor like that may be a little changed, but that isn’t going to affect how well you learn the material.

i would say that you definitely want to have the textbook + solution manual on hand. however, i do know someone who didn’t even own the textbook and just went to pedersen’s office hours every day and she got an A+. the molecular model kit might be useful. i bought it but never used it. =/

I thought the required textbook was the 6th edition which was published literally a week ago. I’m kinda skeptical about buying an older edition because I heard that the problem sets are pretty important for Chem 3A and we don’t get an ebook like we did for Chem1A.

Yea, nowhere else even sells the 6th edition.

i think at the bookstore they were selling 5th edition so it is ok to buy. i didnt even know there is a 6th edition…these editions just rip us off :(

i would just hold off until the first day of class and see what the professor says. when i took frechet last year he didnt care wheter it was the old edition (4th). but to be safe u can just go to class and see. he even gave out some free books!
