I am very interested in the medical field, science and research. Having just finished my sophomore year I am looking to further expand into this. I have written a 10 page or so theoretical paper on a treatment for cancer. How would I go about conducting actual research on this. Also how would I conduct the research necessary for the type of competitions mentioned above (where, with whom, etc.). Thanks a lot.

for something in the medical area, your best bet would be to contact (if available and at all possible) local universities or research centers in your area and ask them if they have any research opportunities open for high school students. A lot of the time, they will be able to help you out or at the very least point you in the right direction and refer you to someone who may be of help. Don’t be afraid to do some research and contact individual scientists and researchers who might be able to help you get started. This will be key for something medical related as it’ll be very tough to do serious research without the types of tools, equiptment, and things that you can really only get in a professional lab.

If you live in an area where this might not be that accessible, there are some summer programs that could help. I know SUNY at Stony Brook and MIT have some summer research programs that last about a month or two, these might be good to look into.

Great thanks very much
