ISEF grand award

Last year, I placed 4th in Med and Health at ISEF. It has been 6 years since someone from my region has placed at all. Is this something notable (the it has been six years part)? If so, how do I tell MIT?

Thanks!

The same way you told CC! :E

How? Do I incorporate it in my essay, or do I just tell them in the extra space they provide? Also, is it important enough to even mention?

Did you get 4th place regionally or nationally?

This is exactly the same thing, which I have been asking here for a long time.
There are many things which can’t be mentioned in the small Activity page, so if I include my other EC’s say gardening, etc in the Extra Space then how shall I write ? Like an essay or just like a list or briefly mention it.

I got 4th Internationally in the category of Medicine and Health.

Either place would be fine. It’s up to you to decide where the information would fit best in the context of the rest of your application, or if it’s information you want to include.

Personally, I think it’s impressive that you placed fourth by itself – it doesn’t really seem important that it’s been six years since someone from your region placed.

But because I come from a place that rarely gets winners, due to lack of resources, wouldn’t that be more impressive in context than compared to someone from California, whose region has multiple winners each year?

You don’t need to mention it because your local AO knows pretty well. If you want to write an essay on this, it is up to you.

Except MIT doesn’t read applications by geographic regions/states.

Good point Adam.

Still, MIT admissions officers do know quite a bit about science contests.

I don’t think it’s a problem to mention that you’re the first person from your region to place in six years, I just don’t think it’s necessary.

You can list it in the awards section. We should also have records from Intel.

^do you mean that the student should provide or mit has on hand to verify?

they are published on the web.
