<p>How good is the business program in UMass and how hard is it to get in?</p>
<p>The business program at UMass Amherst is pretty darn good. It's not as prestigious as some, but it's got a good reputation out there among employers and grad schools. </p>
<p>It's fairly competitive to get into. It's more competitive than some other programs at UMass. So sometimes, people apply for business and get into pre-business instead. In other words, they get into the university, but they need to take some classes in their freshman year to prove that they can get into the business major.</p>
<p>The business program is overrated by Princeton review. So, they're telling us that schools such as Wharton, Haas, Stanford, BC's Carroll, Kellogg, and 50 other schools were skipped over? The big 4 recruit there, because.. it's pretty much accounting at the SOM. But the big 4 recruit just about anywhere. No ibanks, no top firms. Just Disney, First Investors.... Verizon... some bio companies, and you have a career right there.</p>
<p>It's a 3.5 to get in and an essay.. it's not very hard. Try to get into the Tucks Business Bridge summer program at Dartmouth. It's 4x harder than Umass undergrad app. and SOM app. at the same time.</p>
<p>Although the Isenberg School of Management does not compare to those of Wharton and other ivy league campuses, it is still, nonetheless, a fine business program. As long as you put your time and effort into it, you will do fine--however recruiting can be an issue.</p>
<p>In terms of getting in, just make sure you have at least a 3.5gpa, do well in predictor courses (if you are an on campus transfer), and write a decent essay. Typically, however, it is hard for those who are on-campus transfers compared to those who apply into it after high school.</p>
