ISST - Quality of Major at Cornell

I've been trying to find ratings for the quality of this major at Cornell in comparison to other schools and so far I haven't been able to find anything. So I would like to ask, is Cornell ranked at the top for this major?
Also, based on this link http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/student-services/registrar/enrollment-statistics/upload/Fa09-Frozen-enrollment-summary.pdf it doesn't seem like there are many people majoring in ISST at Cornell. This makes me worry that Cornell might not be that good at this major.
Finally, if I get a degree in this major, would I be able to find a good (high salary) job upon graduation. What kind of jobs do graduates of this degree go into?

It’s a pretty unique major and is highly recruited. It is also a small major (within engineering) which makes it pretty close knit. The Info sci classes are some of the most interdisciplinary classes offered (many are cross listed with other subjects like comm, econ or CS). The classes are also really interesting. Some of the professors who teach in this major are the best in the field and doing really interesting and important research.

Like other engineering majors, it is highly sought after and has pretty wide range of employers One of my friends in the major is going to work for Barclays next year, another is off to Google. You’ll be able to get a good, high paying job for sure (and likely have choices).

Bump* (char)

Just warning, you may get teased a little as an ISST major, as some people regard it as the easiest engineering major. However, if it’s what you’re interested in, it’s a solid major, a fair mix of CS, ORIE, and PSYCH.

I thought the easiest major was OR?

ISST is so obscure most engineering students aren’t even aware it’s in engineering.

part of the obscurity of ISST is that information science like majors are offered in CAS, COE and CALS. the ISST major is actually quite different, focusing more on CS rather then psych, comm and soc like the CAS/CALS Info sci majors do.

It’s a very good major and Cornell is highly respected in the field for it.

btw, OR is not really an easy major. It’s more math-heavy than some of the other engineering majors.

I’d argue that math heavy doesn’t necessarily imply harder. I’m in ECE and the strictly mathematical parts are what I find easier. Things that delve into other fields like chemistry require a different type of reasoning, relating material properties to behaviour. The trick is to develop a good intuition, which is sometimes hard to do. I believe the math-heaviness of OR would make it easier for me, since I develop an intuition here faster than other areas.
