I've been accepted to the university and I applied with the intent to study Microbiology. I've was wondering, do you have to choose the pre-med option on the application to become a pre-med student at Pittsburgh or can you just say to your counselor that you want to be a pre-med student?

I did not choose the pre-med option and I'm starting to freak out.

You can definitely tell your advisor that you want to take all the premed requirements, and you don’t need to worry about not applying as a “pre-med student.” Just mention it to your advisor as soon as you can so that you can register for the classes you need at the beginning of the year.

No. Pre-med means you take pre-med classes and anyone is allowed to do it. It’s not restricted to some certain set that checks pre-med somewhere.
