specifically rightflankr, but anyone else that is willing to help please chime in too =].

as opposed to writing about something in my sfs essay as broad as the disparity between developed and third-world countries, the idea of writing about the current situation in honduras was proposed. to be honest, i would love to write about it because it hits so close to me personally being from a neighboring country and my family has been following it closely as well. only thing is what if i offend/turn away an admissions rep because they don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye with me on the subject, whether it be honduras or anything else specific? hypothetically, what if i was to speak of or critique something that the admission rep would agree with? what if the admission rep would go as far as to take it personal, i mean it is politics after all?. im guessing it may seem a little wrong and out of left field, pretty much just me being paranoid, but i don’t usually rub people the wrong way, and certainly DO NOT want to rub an individual who may accept or deny me into my dream school the wrong way.

i hope this isn’t just a completely idiotic question. simply put, is writing about an extremely specific topic beneficial in the sense that the reader may find personal opposition to my view, which would lead to opposition of the writer?
