It's fine to get an MBA but don't be an MBA

What do you guys think of this article from Hunter Walk at LinkedIn?

It's fine to get an MBA but don't be an MBA | LinkedIn

I think Walk makes a good point. You shouldn't be pursuing a MBA degree just to be able to say you have one. I think the main motivation behind earning an MBA should be the desire for further education and knowledge and the desire to use that knowledge to become a better businessperson. Just because you have a title doesn't make you automatically better than anyone who doesn't have the title.

Secondly, I think as an entrepreneur, you don't necessarily need an MBA, but how can having one be seen as a negative? Education is never bad and you get to learn from the best in the business in an MBA program. Even if you do have bad intentions, you will most likely "accidentally" learn something useful in an MBA program and you will be challenged by great businesspeople.

Any other thoughts?

I think this is true of any field honestly. Education is never a bad thing, but getting any degree just to say you have one isn’t going to get you anywhere in your field.

Knowledge matters everywhere, everyone have to focus on gathering it instead of a name-only degree.
