Stop adding new letters. College excellence is a zero sum game, and not every college can be great. In order to have the really good ones, some of them have to be "mediocre" within context of all others. For example, I have no doubt that state schools offer better educations today than Harvard did 200 years ago. However, in relational terms some schools have to be "bad" in order for others to be "good." Therefore, not every college can reach HYPSMC status no matter how fast they improve. The acronym can never be HYPSMCCCPSODIUDJISHFUHADFI.

So let's end it at HYPSMC and leave it at that.

Seriously, if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that MIT AND CALTECH are both different types of schools with different atmosphere than HYPS...so you couldn't compare them either

Am I the only one annoyed at this constant elitist male anatomy measuring contest? The whole "how many colleges can we put into a string of letters" is by far one of the stupidest arguments I've seen in my life and I can't believe people actually dedicate posts to constantly argue it.

I'd like to propose a change to the boards...

I know this board has an auto-censor ability where it will censor certain words. Can HYPSMCBASDFKLSD be added to the censor ban list so we can all stop seeing this senseless discussion? I don't see any down side...

Please save this thread and read it after you have been out of college ten years. You'll realize that departments in major universities have become increasingly specialized. Not every college can have a good department in everything and small schools you never heard of and would be offended talking about in the same sentence with Harvard, Yale, etc. offer great undergraduate educations and have excellent departments. It is not a zero sum game, at least not anymore.

As far as it being hype, sure it is hype, but you can take that HYPE all the way to the bank in the form of grad school feeding and high starting salaries. You can't make 100k+ off the bat with just any undergrad business degree
