It's super late, you're tired, you want to go to sleep but you have a huge pile of homework, or you need to study for your test tomorrow, and then someone IMs you asking you for help on their homework and you know will take a while..... what do you say?

Help when it is convenient, not if the time is not optimal. No one should be at someone else’s beck and call. As one matures one must learn how and when to say, “No.” or “Not at this time.”

It depends on the person. If it’s somebody I feel is simply using me for help and ignores me/not really friends with them any other time, I’d say no. But, if it’s one of my close friends and I can see that they truly just need help and aren’t using me for answers, sure. It’s kind of funny, one friend pops into my mind immediately. Both near the top of our class and we make almost nightly calls like these - anytime he asks for help, I help him, because I know he’d do the same for me at a moment’s notice. :D

I will usually help people because I know how that kind of thing helps me a lot when it’s late and it’s crunch time. I do get annoyed with it from time to time and I make sure it’s constructive help (not cheating/just giving answers, I try to explain and teach), but I will usually give in and help.

Every week or so we have 30-40 physics problems that we need to enter on an online service. So many kids wait until the last minute to do them, but they’re due at 12 at night. Every week I get the same 3 or 4 kids asking me for help at 11. Last week I told a few of them I was busy… I plan to start doing that more often.

As stated, it depends who it is… If it’s a close friend or a girl you like, of course you have to say yes. Ok, maybe not on the close friend, but definitely on the girl… I study all day, so I always have time to help people. Whenever more work gets added, I just say “Pile it on,” baby.
