People always think I'm going to Penn State when I definitely say that I am going to the University of Pennsylvania!! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!

ITS SOOOOOOOO ANNOYING!!!!!!! URGH!!

sorry, just had to get out my frustrations. lol.

I feel for you man. When I tell people I'm going to Penn, they just look at me and say, "Oh, good for you", and then I tell them my cousin's going to Johns Hopkins, and they're like, "Wow, that's amazing!"

The people I talk to have no idea that there is a difference between Penn State and University of Pennsylvania, but they're genuinely excited and sincere in their congratulations so I just ignore the mistake.

CDN_dancer,
Yeah I know that people are very sinere with their congrats, but I am honestly going to be telling people I don't go to Penn State for the rest of my life.

When it comes to name recognition, most people know HYP right off the bat. I think Penn and Brown are the neglected ivies. Lol.

I saw a shirt in the book store that read "Not Penn State"... I thought it was cute!

Those who need to know, know ;)

haha that is true!!!

Hey, at least they didn't think State Penn.

That would have been BAD.

I dont want to come off as snotty and uppidy. I just want people to know where I'm going. I mean Penn State is a great school but Penn state and Upenn are two different things.

Im kinda being a hypocrite because I get Florida State and the University of Florida confused all the time.

haha, well that definitely doesn't happen down here in georgia...theres a big difference between uga and georgia state. but yea, like no one knows what upenn is--but then if you say like yale or princeton theyre like OOOOO...it's actually pretty sad.

I wore my "Not Penn State" shirt to school yesterday. It's actually pretty useful when it comes to people who don't know the difference. I tell them I'm going to Penn and just as they're about to say, "Oh, Penn Stat-" I cut them off and point to my shirt. ;)

sometimes i consider correcting people, but then i realize that i'd rather not be perceived as a pretentious ivy jerk if i don't have to be.

I did once and felt like a jackass after. I then vowed never to do it again.

actually, i had a friend congratulate me on state penn...
i told him that hopefully i would get acquitted soon

I told my boyfriend's mom that I wanted to go to University of Penn and that my friend wanted to go to Cornell and she was all "woah! your friend is sooo smart thats sooo amazing" clearly thinking i wanted to go to Penn State. I was not happy lol.

This is quite humorous, if you wanted a school that everyone has heard of then you made a mistake in Penn. As a Penn State University Park student, I never have to worry about someone not knowing my school, but that is mainly due to Joe Paterno and our amazing (normally) football team. Ha, it is hilarious how many "Not Penn State.." shirts that I have seen around Philly. I know this is all for fun, but intelligent people know that Penn is a very good school. You do not need constant compliments in order to get a good education. I want Penn and Penn State to start playing in football. Let's make it happen.

Yeah, I dont need constant compliments to get a good education but at the same time I want people to know where I'm going. I wanna rep the school that I'm attending and its not Penn State.

It's kinda like if your name was Julie and people kept calling you Julia... You would want people to call you the RIGHT name.

I just university of pennsylvania. solves the problem 90% of the time. The remaining 10%...need a reality check.

i know what you guys mean!! when people ask me whre i wanna go i'm like Upenn and there like "oh penn state thats good" and i'm like no Upenn as in University of Pennsylvania its one of the ivy league schools." but yeah i do wanna represent where i aspire to go!

I live in rural Texas and absolutely NO ONE has heard of the University of Pennsylvania or has any idea about the difference between it and Penn State. People have no clue about the prestige or the quality of academics. The usual reaction gives me the impression they are thinking "wow he certainly fell short I thought he was supposed to be smart or something" to which I usually don't attempt to reply because at that point i am just trying to build up something more that it really is in their minds.

Haha~~Even the admissions officers sometimes confuse the two. You can just say 'the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania', then no one will think of Penn State...
