It's that time. Early decision (ED) results?

if any of you made the same mistake as me, I received an email from the FINAID department, which stated that I can still submit my CSS and 2013 taxes and be cool.

@Burche - Glad to hear that you can still send that stuff in.

Does anyone know if the admitted students group on Facebook is up?

Never mind, they just sent out a link to accepted students via email.

Hey! I got in as well! Congrats to everyone. I’m not sure why I didn’t receive the email though for the facebook link. Can someone give it to me? Thanks!

WaitingED, if you are truly set on Vassar, I know you have to do other applications now- and that is hard. BUT- also do what you can to make your case to Vassar: write your regional rep (if your GC can/will ask him/her for any feedback they might have). If any achievements come in between now and end of January send it in. Write a letter making your case for why you for Vassar (ie, what you bring). Hard, I know- but I do know people who were deferred in December and got good news in the spring.

@collegemom3717 , Thanks for the advice. My SATs are on the lower end of the acceptable scale, but GPA is 4.0, and the EC are good (elected Student Government President, elected Theater Group President, Academic Bowl Captain, Music Dept. treasurer, Section Leader in chorus, shift manager evening at my seasonal job, and semi active in local volunteer fire dept, etc) My schedule is busy, and junior year last quarter grades dropped a bit. For example, I received a B for an AP class in the last semester, but pulled a 5 for the final. Every admission person I spoke with loved the leadership experience, and advised me that they understand what demands this makes on my schedule and how it can have an effect test scores. I was hoping that would come across on the app. Maybe I need to make some direct contact at Vassar.

WaitingED - Word always is that if you have been deferred to let the college know how interested you are in attending. Do all you can to make sure they know that. Good luck!

Definitely make contact WaitingED. Sometimes they are waiting to see how first term goes, which seems possible given an unusual grade dip. Think before you write: what do you bring to the community? that is a hard hard question for lots of people- not because they don’t have a lot to offer, but because it is not how they are used to presenting themselves. It’s not boasting about achievements (though you have plenty to boast about)- it’s making a link between that person who did all those things and the college community. Take a hard look at your “why Vassar” essay as well, to see if you can build on it. Good luck…come back & let us know how it works out.

Rejected. I did make several contacts, in addition to the tour. It was a reach, I know. 1990/740/740. 4.0 WGPA. Exceptional ECs. Because of the ECs, I even had a personal recommendation from the principal straight to Vassar. But because of those ECs, the grades slipped for the mid year report. I’m guessing that’s what closed the door. Same issue with Colgate. But, I can’t complain, I did get accepted to my safe and match schools.

Sorry to hear that news, WaitingED- but delighted for you about Dickinson! I know 3 very happy students there, and I hope the same is true for you. Btw, 2 of them have had truly amazing semesters abroad- in Turks & Caicos, Argentina and Spain- all covered by same FinAid terms as your usual arrangement. Have a great adventure.
