It's That Time of Year...

Around February, the students in my school choose classes for next year and all that junk. So I picked my classes and all that good stuff and gave it to my parents so they could sign it and make sure the classes I picked were decent. We have to pick eight classes and two alternates. This is what I picked:

AP English Language and Comp

AP Calculus AB (yearlong)

AP Physics Mechanics

AP Environmental Science

Latin II

Latin III

AP Psychology

My mom was really lenient about it and told me to work really hard. When my dad saw it, he refused to sign it until we talked. To sum it up, he basically said that I was going to fail my classes and suggested some other classes.

I just need other opinions on this schedule. So what do you think? If you guys have any suggestions please feel free to type them.

Why are you taking two Latin classes at once? O_o

But honestly, it doesn’t look that bad. I would throw out APES though, it is kind of a pointless AP and doesn’t look that great on college applications.

APES is pointless. you should take comp, calculus, physics

"…doesn’t look tht great on college applications."

Yeah…taking an AP class looks horrible. AP Environmental Science may in fact be easy, but in my experience was really fun class. Digging for pill bugs. Teaming up with the local university to catch fish in the ocean. Tagging animals. Cultivating our own “habitat”. Catching our classroom pet…OK, now I’m just reminiscing but APES is more of a laid back, non work intensive course. Enjoy it.

Fantasy is most likely taking Latin II and III because some courses are just lumped together once you get to a certain level, such Web Design II and III; Drafting II and III…Or he is taking two seperate classes.

[APES Rant]
I see a number of people saying APES is pointless, easy, horrible, useless, yada yada. I say the opposite really IF you have the time to take a class that is for enjoyment. Do all your classes have to be top rigor? No. You get added weight for the class. If you have the time might as well take it. If a lot APES classes were taught the way mine was then I guarantee a lot of people would be saying otherwise. All the enjoyable, discussion based APs are always deemed the easiest/most pointless.

^I agree with Niquii. Even at my own school, all of the top students laugh at “how much of a joke” classes like AP Psych and APES are. They obsess over how easy the class is and how it will look so bad on college apps. It’s honestly really annoying how they think that every class you take needs to be rigorous (you would think my school is CC sometimes). I’m not even taking APES and I have no desire to take it, but I don’t think students that take it should be ridiculed for taking an easier Science AP.

Your schedule looks fine. I don’t know why your dad thinks you’re going to fail, unless you’ve proven that you can’t handle hard classes in the past?

As long as you so far have good grades this year (suggesting that you can handle those courses) I see nothing wrong with your schedule.

More than I would take on.

Whew, alright. Latin II and Latin III are separate semesters we have four block scheduling. I’m planning on talking to my counselor tomorrow to see what she thinks and hopefully get some advice.

It doesn’t look too bad. If there’s something you need to throw out, pick the class in your least favorite subject (unless it’s required for graduation). Do what you like. If you think you will be able to enjoy the classes despite the work, go for it! If not, think of what class you will dread doing the work for every single day. If it’s removable, then remove it. Best of luck!
