One of these is discrimination, and I feel this is much more problematic than the viet kieu vs. viet cong thing. It is extremely shameful, but it exists, both in VN and here in the US.

Actually it does not exist in Vietnam. It's just the misunderstanding of some (if not most) Vietnamese American people that "communism is bad". "Viet cong" simply means Vietnamese communist, and I don't think anyone would take that as offensive :)

Hi GiangLei: The shameful discrimination I mentioned is not about viet kieu vs. viet cong, rather it is about some people from different regions (north, central, south...) tend to discriminate against one another. I have VN friends who (or whose parents) all regions of VN and they have shared their collective experiences about this. I used to live in California, and this was, and still is, a problem.

Ronty007: Welcome and thanks for joining us!!!

Hlvietlong: I am sorry again, man! Yes, I was soooo busy with preparing our data for publication. I didn't have enough time to do anything other than eat, sleep, and back to the lab. I didn't even have time to call my mother (she is in California).
Private life? I dated a Vietnamese Chinese woman. We first met in college many years ago and we separated 5 years ago. She was really wonderful but we just have too many differences. Since I have been so busy with school, I have not thought about another adventure yet.

Thanks DaiViet :)

@DaiViet: Don't worry, man :D People usually have their own hard time :D It's unfortunate that mine and yours coincided :D
What are you doing after the publication :D? BTW, what is that publication :D? Your major was related to Medical and Biology, right?

@ronty: Did you see any notification? If not then there must be sth with the YM network :(

yes, I have got the notification. :)

Ronty 007: Are you from India? Which schools are your top choices?

Hlvietlong: I received B.S/M.S in biology before medical school. I finished my MD last year and now working on a research project in neuro-psychiatry. Our research has to do with mechanism of alcoholism and potential treatments.

@ronty: But I did not :(

Anyone else applied ED II this season? ;)
Good luck with Colgate, hlvietlong :D .When do you expect to know the result?
I wonder what integtypeR spirited away are doing these days that makes them so busy . :)

DaiViet: Yes I m from India
My top choice University: MIT or an Indian Medical School (AIIMS) :)
R u a practicing physician in US?

Ronty 007: I am not a practicing physician yet. I just graduated from med school last year and now spending 1 year as post-doc researcher. I need to do residency first, probably neurology or internal medicine-neurology combo, before I can practice.
When I went to grad school, two of my three best friends were Indians. The male friend was born in California and he was an undergrad, and the female friend was born in India and her family moved to the US when she was 12. They both graduated from med school now. They were extremely close friends.

DaiViet, so r u exempted from USMLE?
Moreover, whats the average salary of a Neurosurgery Resident?
One of my cousin is a Physician at Cleveland Clinic.

007: neurosurgery residency is about 6-7 years, and I think the residents probably make around 45-60,000 per year, depending which year of training they are in. Cleveland Clinic is one of the very best medical center in the US.
Juts like any other MD in the US, I had to take and pass USMLE step 1 and 2 before becoming a resident.

Thanks DaiViet for the info

Anyone gonna know the result this week? :)
ronty007 and DaiViet,I don't understand what you are talking about. But oh well, maybe I will later if I will be a doctor.;)

It depends on the admission office, man :D Wabash's EA notification date is Jan 31st but I haven't heard anything from it yet :(

I believe you will receive a big envelop.;)

どおも ありがと ございます :D I hope so, too :D

All the BEST :)
