Can any computer science majors comment on the IU program including internship opportunities? My 2011 son is disgusted that Purdue hasn't offered him any scholarship $ so he is thinking about taking IU up on the offer of free tuition. I'm just a little worried that there will be fewer job opportunities coming out of IU computer science than Purdue. I'm worried we may be penny wise but pound foolish.

Ouch, I did not know Purdue stopped their automatic scholarships. That used to be an awesome deal for in-state students, as IU’s highest automatic scholarship continues to be for in-states. Is there any way to sense what percentage of in-state are still getting the scholarships that were automatic last year?

IU computer science major here.

I remember that I was close to going to Purdue, but things just happened and I ended up at IU and I feel that I’ve gotten just as much, if not more, out of IU so far. IU’s School of Informatics and Computing (SoIC) has a superb career-services office, and every year, they have a huge IT career fair. Microsoft, Abbott, Eli Lilly, Cerner, General Mills, and ExactTarget are among the companies that have hired people I know for either full-time positions or internships. The people who want jobs get jobs, from what I’ve seen. The long list of companies from last fall’s career fair can be found at [Fall 2010 IT Career Fair: Career Fairs: Events: Career Services: School of Informatics and Computing: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Careers: Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering: Indiana University Bloomington”>Careers: Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering: Indiana University Bloomington)

But please, now that I’ve hopefully shown that careers are not a problem, maybe you should tell us a bit more about your son’s interests or experiences? whether he’s dead set on CS or not? possible other majors/minors? Has he looked at IU’s Informatics program as well?
